Cow Nutrition Can Have Long-Term Impacts on Calf's Productivity -
Many producers recognize the importance of cow nutrition, especially during late gestation, because of the influence on the cow's postpartum reproductive performance. Researchers are discovering cow nutrition during gestation affects fetal growth and development of her calf, which can have long-term impacts on the calf's productivity.
In an opinion piece for her college newspaper, Beth Mendenhall, a senior this fall (2009) majoring in political science and philosophy, wrote,
“…eating meat is bad for the environment and human health and causes billions of animals to suffer needlessly.”
Those comments were not written on the campus at Stanford or Harvard.
Mendenhall attends Kansas State University, the first Land Grant college created under the Morrill Act in 1863 — home of one of America’s outstanding animal science departments and a prestigious veterinary college.
